We Remember

Pat Stapleton

The Komoka Kings organization is deeply saddened by the passing of Pat Stapleton yesterday night. He was an integral part of hockey culture in Southwestern Ontario and a member of the Strathroy Rockets Wall of Fame. We send our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Stapleton.

The Kings would like to congratulate two members of the Kings organization on receiving awards this year!

First, forward Dario Beljo, who had 31 goals and 27 assists, while leading the team in points with 58. Dario was named to the GOJHL Western Conference All-Star First Team!

Also, we would like to congratulate Don Adams on receiving the Kelly Hearn Award for Outstanding Volunteer. Don works very hard in getting sponsors/community partners, preparing promotions, organizing community events and pretty much helps out the Komoka Kings in any way he can!

The Komoka Kings Junior B Hockey Club want to thank all the fans who supported the Kings this season. The Kings organization thank all the players who have worked extremely hard on and off the ice to bring exciting hockey to the community, and thank you to the parents and families for their ongoing support and encouragement.

We thank the team staff of coaches, those that manage the team equipment and player wellbeing and fitness. All of their effort has helped these young men become stronger and better.

We also thank the sponsors and community supporters for their ongoing help in organizing special events and promotions that have helped make a Komoka Kings game a memorable event. A great thank you to Municipality of Middlesex Centre staff for their assistance in accommodating games and practices and to the Komoka Kilworth Optimists for their dedication in proving fan support.

Komoka Kings are fortunate to have a great team of volunteers that organizes and supports the special events off and on the ice and game day events.

We can all be proud!

Kings keep up a strong weekend bringing home another win, a 3-2 win over the LaSalle Vipers.

In front of large and loud LaSalle crowd on their Rogers Hometown Hockey Day Kings were the better team this afternoon.  Kings opened the scoring in the first period on Cole Kimble's 3rd as a King, assisted by Austin Maiette and Griffin St. Onge. Vipers got the equalizer on a short handed goal at 14:20.  Kings Jacob Rochford made it 2-1 at 16:00 on his 24th of the season with assists to Russell Oldham and Bryce McConnell-Barker to give the Kings the lead after one period.

On strong play and good zone penetration Bryce McConnell-Barker notched his 3rd at 13:09 of the second period to give Kings a 3-1 lead, assists to Jacob Rochford and Dario Beljo.  Shots on net were 11-5 in the Kings favour.

Vipers fought hard in the third period and cut the lead to 3-2 at 13:52 on the power play.  However the Kings were not letting this match get away from them and defended well to end the game 3-2 with some great saves by Nathan Young in the Kings net.

Two wins on the final weekend of the regular season gives the Kings a 17-25-1-7 season record, a single point behind the 6th place Strathroy Rockets.

Saturday, February 22

Led by Dario Beljo's two goals Komoka Kings take 2 points and a huge 4-3 win over the Leamington Flyers on the Kings last regular season game at home.

Leamington opened the scoring at 6:30 of the first period on a quick break and pass.  Kings come back 2 minutes later on a great effort coming in from the left wing when Dario Beljo scored his 30th of the season, assisted by Bryce McConnell-Barker..  Two minutes later Dario scored his second of the game to give the Kings a 2-1 lead on assists by Dowson Zheng and Jacob Rochford..  Flyers got that one back at 14:36 to make it 2-2 after one.  Kings had 8 shots on Flyers net and Rahul Bola faced 9 Flyer shots.

In a tight back and forth period Will German gave the Kings the lead again at 2:31 of the second period, his 3rd of the season, unassisted.

The score continued at 3-2 Kings until 13:54 of the third period when D-man Griffin St. Onge scored his first of the season assisted by Austin Maietta.  Kings were able to hold off the Flyers until 17:36 of the period when Kings failed to clear the puck out of their end after an icing call to make it 4-3.  Flyers pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 90 seconds to go but the Kings foiled the Flyer chances by great defensive play and tight forechecking and preserve the 4-3 victory.  Kings outshot the Flyers 8-6 in the third period, and overall 25 shots on net for each team.

The PFPC London Kings 3 stars of the game were Dario Beljo as star #1 with 2 goals and strong two-way play, Rahul Bola second star with strong play in the Kings net stopping a number of close-in Flyer chances, and D'Arcy Panziera as third star in his first game back.

Kings final season game is Sunday afternoon at LaSalle.  Kings first round playoff opponent will be the same Leamington Flyers with dates still to be determined.

Monday, February 17

Kings fight hard but come out on the short end of a 5-2 game with the Leamington Flyers on a Tim Hortons Monday Matinee.

In front of a boisterous crowd Kings and Flyers played an exciting and close contest with Leamington opening the scoring at 3:38 of the first period.  Dario Beljo tied it for the Kings with 36 seconds to go in the period with his 29th of the season on a left side rush and nice deke to put it behind the Flyers netminder, assists to Blake McConnell-Barker and Jacob Rochford.  Shots were even at 8 for both teams with Kings going scoreless on two power play opportunities and Flyers 0-for-1.

Kings took the lead at 0:57 of the second period on some good digging by Blake McConnell-Barkers in front of the Flyers net for his 10 of the season with assists to Blake Griffith and Dario Beljo.  However Flyers come right back and tied the game just 28 seconds later.  Second period ended 2-2 with the Flyers outshooting the Kings 14-10.  Kings killed off two short handed chances and the Flyers stopped the Kings on one minor penalty in the period.

Flyers came out quick in the third period to take the lead 3-2 at 0:57, made it 4-2 at 4:44 and scored again on the power play at 7:27 for a 5-2 lead.  A rash of penalties on both sides hindered play and the Kings were unable to make it a closer score but giving it their all by pulling goalie Young in favour of an extra attacker in the last minute of play.

The PFPC London 3 stars of the game for the Kings were Dario Beljo as first star, Bryce McConnell-Barker as second star, and Jacob Howard as third star.

KIngs and Sarnia Legionniares are still tied for 7th position with 2 games remaining for both.

Friday, February 14

Komoka Kings get 2 goal performances from Dario Beljo and Jacob Rochford to come home with a 5-3 win over the St. Thomas Stars.

In a must win game for the Kings in their hunt for 6th position in the Western Conference standings they put out a complete game.  Dario Beljo started the scoring at 5:01 of the first period with his 28th of the season on assists from Blake McConnell-Barker and Will Lewis.  Dario scored his second of the game at 17:35 to give the Kings a 2-0 lead after one period.  Assists to Jacob Rochford and Connor Federkow.  Kings took 19 shots on Stars net in the period with Rahul Bola stopping all 13 Stars shots.

Early in the second period D-man Jacob Howard scored his second of the season to give the Kings a 3-0 lead, assist to Joey Studnicka.  Stars made it 3-1 midway in the second period.  Kings kept up the pressure on the Stars net in taking 20 shots in the period with the Stars taking 10, 3-1 Kings after two,

Jacob Rochford scored his 22nd of the season at 9:15 of the third period to give the Kings a 4-1 lead, assisted by Dario Beljo.  Stars don't give up easy, and made a game of it by scoring at 9:38 and again at 15:21 to cut the lead to one, 4-3 for the Kings,  On this night however, the Kings weren't going to let this one get away and Jacob Rochford came back just 6 seconds later with his second of the game and 23rd of the season to give the Kings a 2 goal lead again 5-3, assist to Joey Studnicka and Dario Beljo.  St. Thomas pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but solid Kings defense kept it a 5-3 Kings win.  Shots on net in the final period were 17-14 for the Kings and a game total of 51-34.

Kings were 0-for-5 on the power play with the Stars going 0-for-4.

With the win Kings and Sarnia Legionnaires are tied with 38 points, just 2 points behind the Strathroy Rockets with all 3 teams having 4 games to go in the regular season.  With the loss St. Thomas Stars are out of the playoffs.

Kings continue the busy weekend by hosting the LaSalle Vipers at the Komoka Wellness Centre on Saturday night - 7:15 pm puck drop, and also hosting the Leamington Flyers on the Monday Family Day Matinee - 1:15 pm puck drop.

Wednesday, February 12

In the second of a home and home series Komoka Kings take a short ride home from the Western Fair Sports Centre after a tough 8-1 loss to the London Nationals.

Nationals score often including 3 power play goals as they take both games of a 2-game mini series with the Kings.  Dario Beljo spoiled the Nationals shut-out with his 26th of the season for the Kings midway in the third period with an assist by Will Davis.

Kings will be in St. Thomas Friday night and then return home Saturday to host the LaSalle Vipers, then a Monday Matinee to face the Leamington Flyers both at the Komoka Wellness Centre.

Saturday, February 8

Kings suffer another tough loss in OT, falling to the London Nationals 4-3.

In a fast first period with both teams having good rushes and solid goal tending London Nationals opened the scoring at 16:53 on a short handed goal after a Kings miscue at their blueline, taking a 1-0 lead after the first period.  Kings had 11 shots on Nationals net and Kings Nathan Young facing 14 London shots.

The second period continued with tight checking and good defensive play until Kings Cameron Welch scored his 16th of the season at 12:34.  Assists going to Will German and Dman Griffin St. Onge.  Jacob Rochford scored less than a minute latter notching his 21st of the season and giving the Kings a 2-1 lead.  Assists to Luc Arsenault and Dowson Zheng.  Kings outshot the Nationals 14-9 taking a 2-1 lead after two,

Nationals tied the game 2-2 at 6:51 of the third period with the Kings having a man in the penalty box.  Kings took the lead again at 12:01 on Cameron Welch's second of the night with assists to Arsenault and Zheng.  The Kings were unable to hold the lead as the Nationals scored with an extra attacker on the ice with just 40 seconds left in the game.  Shots in the period were 12-10 in London's favour.  So to another OT period, the 4th time in the last 6 Kings games,

Both teams had chances but it was the Nationals that got the puck into the Komoka net on an unfortunate Kings bounce off of the backboard, to take the game 4-3.  In a bit of unsportsmanlike behaviour, after the final goal the National's coach was assessed a penalty for leaving the players bench and going on to the ice.  Kings were 1-for-7 on the power play with the Nationals 1-for-6.

The PFPC London Kings 3 stars of the game were Cameron Welch as #1 star with two goals, Nathan Young as second star with several great saves to keep the game tight, and Dowson Zheng as third star with his solid defensive play and getting 2 assists.

Kings have a heavy week with a return match in London on Wednesday to face the Nationals, then a Friday night game in St. Thomas to face the Stars, and returning home on Saturday to host the LaSalle Vipers and a Monday Matinee on Family Day to host the Leamington Flyers at the Komoka Wellness Centre.

Thursday, February 6

Kings try to overcome an early 4-0 Chatham lead but come out short in a 6-5 loss to the Maroons in Chatham.

Chatham scored 4 goals in the first period and out-shooting the Kings 16-8 to take a big lead.

Kings narrowed it to 4-1 at 6:30 of the second period on Joey Stadnicka's power play marker, his 9th of the season, assisted by Russell Oldham and Dario Beljo.  Maroons made it a 3 goal lead again on a power play goal at 10:18 to end the second period with a 5-1 lead.  Shots were 12-11 in favour of the Maroons.

After an unsuccessful Komoka penalty shot early in the third period Kings started a comeback try with Kobe Ferreira notching his eight of the season at 4:38 of the third period, assists to Cole Kimble and Austin Maietta.  Luc Arsenault scored his 14th of the season on the power play at 6:33 to cut the Maroons lead to 5-3 with assists to Jacob Howard and Joey Studnicka.  Maroons made it 6-3 midway in the third period but the Kings weren't done as Dario Beljo scored a power play goal at 12:56, his 26th of the season with assists to Joey Studnicka and Spencer Lapointe, and Luc Arsenault scored his second of the game and 15th of the season at 16:49 to cut the Maroons lead to 6-5 with assists to Dario Beljo and Russell Oldham.  Kings pulled goalie Young for an extra attacker in the last minute but were not able to get the equalizer and earning the Maroons a 6-5 win.  Kings outshot the Maroons 13-11 in the third period for an overall Maroons advantage of 39-33.  Kings were 3-for-6 on the power play and Maroons going 2-for-6.  Luc Arsenault with two goals and Dario Beljo and Joey Studnicka each with a goal and 2 assists were the Kings offensive stars.

Kings next game will be on Saturday night when they host the London Nationals at the Komoka Wellness Centre - 7:15 pm puck drop.

Saturday, February 1

After four lead changes Kings take a late game lead only to see the LaSalle Vipers tie it with just a minute to go and then scored in the 2OT for a 5-4 Vipers win.

LaSalle took a 1-0 lead midway in the first period with the Kings tying it at 14:12 on Cameron Welch's 14th of the season, assisted by Spencer Lapoint, to end the period 1-1.  Shots were 15-14 in favour of the Vipers with Kings killing 2 Viper power play chances, and the Kings unsuccessful on one Viper penalty.

LaSalle took the lead again at 6:01 of the second period with the Kings scoring late in the period to tie at 2 each on Dario Beljo's 25th with assists to Jacob Rochford and Joey Studnicka.  Shots 13-10 for the Kings in the second period and both teams killing two power play chances.

Vipers again took the lead at 8:12 of the third period with the Kings Austin Maietta scoring his 3rd of the season at 8:55 with assist by Russell Oldham.  Cameron Welch with his second of the game and 15th of the season gave the Kings a 4-3 lead at 17:42 with assist by Luc Arsenault.  With the extra attacker the Vipers tied it 4-4 at 18:42.  Shots 16-14 for the Vipers with Kings killing two Viper power plays and the Vipers killing one Komoka chance.

Kings had some good chances in the first overtime period but good goaltending the tight checking on both sides kept it scoreless.  With just seconds to go in the 2nd overtime and a faceoff in the Vipers end the Kings pulled Bola for an extra attacker in the offensive zone but the Vipers were able to win the puck and a long clearing shot found the empty Kings net for a 5-4 Vipers win.  Rahul Bola made 40 saves in the Kings net and the Vipers goalie also 40 of the 44 shots by the Kings.

The PFPC London 3 stars of the game - Cameron Welch as #1 star with two goals, Rahul Bola as second star in the Kings net, and Austin Maietta with a goal and relentless forechecking.

Kings travel to Chatham on Thursday night for their 6th meeting of the season, with Komoka 2 wins and Chatham 3 wins in their five meetings so far.

Thursday, January 30

Kings put on a great performance in a tight game only to lose 4-3 in 2OT in Leamington.

Flyers opened the scoring at 17:44 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead in to the second period.  Kings Rahul Bola in the Kings net faced 18 shots in the period.  Kings failed to capitalize on two PP opportunities.

Dario Beljo tied it for the Kings at 6:09 of the second period with his 24th of the season on the power play, assists to Russell Oldham and Blake McConnell-Barker.  Flyer come back to take the lead again at 15:44 to end the 2nd period 2-1.  Kings capitalised on their only power play opportunity.  Bola stopped 18 of the 19 Flyer shots on his net.

At 4:39 of the third period Russell Oldham notched his 9th of the season to again tie it for the Kings, assists to Austin Maietta and D-man Jacob Howard.  Flyers took the lead for the third time 2 minutes later.  Oldham was flying high for the Kings on this night and on a breakaway was pulled down and awarded a penalty shot.  A great save by Flyers net keeper kept the game 3-2.  At 11:02 Oldham again with his second of the game and 10th of the season to tie the game for the third time, assists to Cameron Welch and Luc Arsenault.  Kings killed off both minor calls in the period and Bola continued his dazzling play facing 15 shots.

Both teams had good chances in the 4-on-4 first OT period until Kings were assessed a questionable penalty.  Digging deep Kings held through the 1st OT and the balance of the 2-minute short-handed time in the 2nd OT period.  On 3-on-3 play Flyers scored at 3:32 to take the 4-3 win.  Disappointing in the loss, the one point against the second place Flyers is important in the playoff positioning.

The whole team played well and all worthy of recognition with Oldham's 2 goals and an assist, Beljo with a goal and presence on the power play and penalty kill, and Bola stopping 54 of 58 shots who were the Kings stars of the game.

Kings return home to host the LaSalle Vipers on Saturday night at the Komoka Wellness Centre - 7:15 pm puck drop.

Komoka Kings 2019/2020 Season

KOMOKA, ONT -- The Komoka Kings of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) have announced the coaching staff which lead the team to one of their most successful seasons in franchise-history will be returning for the 2019/2020 season.

Head Coach Ron Horvat will once again lead the team along with assistant coaches Mike Reati (Defence) and Colin Martin (Forwards).

"Our coaching staff is looking forward to this coming season," Ron Horvat, Komoka Kings Head Coach said. "We have a group of players who worked hard and were eager to learn. We now feel we can make a push for a solid season and a  long playoff run."

Horvat and his staff lead the Kings through an impressive playoff run, beating a veteran-laden Chatham Maroons team before taking the first-place Leamington Flyers to seven games before bowing out in the conference semi-finals. Their regular season performance had them improve on last season with 45 points.

“Ron and his staff did a great job with the young team we assembled this year,” Roop Chanderdat, Komoka Kings President and GM said.  “This team developed and matured under Coach Horvat’s leadership, and that was reflected in their play especially during the second half of the season and in the playoffs.”

“Mike and Colin complimented Ron very well and were a tremendous asset to our team. Overall, our coaching staff and management team worked well together, and I am looking forward to the 2019-2010 season."

Kings 2018-2019 Season

THANKS FOR A GREAT SEASON

I would like to say thanks to all our players, their families, coaching staff, management personnel, training staff, volunteers, sponsors, billet families, our loyal fans, the Middlesex Centre staff and anyone that helped and supported the Kings during this GREAT SEASON.  Everyone’s hard work and support was incredible this year and this was so evident with our on ice success especially during our great playoff run.  What a run it was for our young team (no graduating players on our roster), knocking off a veteran Chatham Maroons team and taking the 1st place Leamington Flyers Team to a game 7 in the semi-finals.

I am so proud of this great group of young men that truly were a team and were great ambassadors of the Kings and our community.  As a management team we believed in the group we assembled and were very happy to see the team develop under our great coaching staff.  Thanks Ron, Mike, Colin and Dave.

As evident by the crowds during our playoff run, we had the support of our community and I thank our fans for their continued support – we all had a hand in putting  the Komoka Kings on the hockey map.  As everyone knows you can’t have a successful team without volunteers and we have the best game day volunteers led by Don Adams and his tremendous crew.  Also thanks to the Komoka Kilworth Optimists for running the bar and 50/50 at all our home games.

Our sponsors are great supporters of our team and we hope to continue to build strong relationships with the local business community.  Our team is very active in the community and supported many of the local groups (both profit and non-profit organizations) and this was very evident during our pre-game and game festivities.

This was our 2nd season in Komoka and my plan is to continue to get better as an organization both on and off the ice.  I am looking forward to Year 3 and again thanks for all your support.

Regards,

Roop Chanderdat

President & GM
